Chocs away: Netherlands biggest exporter of cocoa products

The Netherlands has taken Germany’s crown as the biggest exporter of cocoa products in the world, according to the latest figures from statistics agency CBS.

Dutch cocoa product exports were worth €12.4 billion in 2025, overtaking Germany, which held the record from 2010, on €11.4 billion.

The Netherlands is also the world’s biggest importer of cocoa beans and the leading trader in cocoa beans and products.

Dutch cocoa exports almost tripled in value between 2020 and 2025, boosted by high cocoa prices due to failed harvests in West Africa and netting the Dutch economy some €3 billion.

A quarter of the Dutch export of cocoa beans and products goes to Germany and 13% to Belgium. The United States is the biggest importer of Dutch cocoa products outside Europe.

Some 27% of cocoa beans and products are imported from the Ivory Coast and other West African countries, including Nigeria, Ghana and Cameroon.
